One More Week!

I'm getting married in a week!  My journey through wedding planning is almost over, and I'm glad to finally be able to relax and begin to take joy in what is to come.  I had no idea that wedding planning was so detailed and could be so draining!  I don't think I would've been able to take it without the helpful support of my mom, Jinga, and Brett.  I love you all so much, and I'm really glad that I'll be seeing so many of you SYISers at the celebration.

Twenty-Three!

What a fun birthday!  I started off the celebrations by making no-bake cookies and rice krispie treats with my 6th graders on Friday morning.  The 5th graders got to partake of the yummies as well, and they were sweet enough to sing to me too.

Later that evening, ElizWu presented her gift to me at midnight - a delightful new purse and a Disney Princess card.  My favorite part about the card was the part on the back that instructed the recipient to "ask an adult for assistance with assembling your new charm necklace".    We spent the rest of the night taking online quizzes to figure out which Disney Princess we each were.  After getting a variety of different results, we concluded that I'm most like Belle and Liz is most like...hmm...a lot of different characters.

This morning, Brett & I walked to a Chinese bakery in Ann Arbor on 4th St.  For the longest time, ElizWu and I have been looking for a place where we can get good cha-siew-bao in Ann Arbor.  This place's isn't bad, and it's so close to our apartment!  The gah-lay-bao is also quite tasty.  Brett-Brett became a great fan of Chinese baked goodies when he visited Shanghai to see my parents in December 2006.  After our breakfast, we walked over to Zingerman's to get my 6 free birthday bagels.  Yum - they should be pretty nom nom nom for breakfast tomorrow morning.

I also went to Applebee's this afternoon for a lunch date with Big P and her friend Mathias.    I got a free sundae there, but it was too big for us to finish.    And when I got back, Caroline dropped off a loaf of homemade almond cake and another sunny bright card with Katy.    Then Priscilla frosted my birthday cake.  Yum.

Then we went to The Real Seafood Co. on Main for dinner, and it was delicious.  The crazy part, though, was when they asked to see my ID for verification that it indeed was my birthday....and lo and behold, my driver's license said that my birthday was January 25!    We were all completely confused and I had a minor identity crisis.  :-O  Apparently it's been the wrong birthdate on my license for the past 2 years since it was last renewed, and I hadn't noticed the error until today!  And to think I've gotten all those birthday freebies without any questioning for the past 2 years!  I double-checked my passport when we got home to make sure that my birthday was really January 26.

All in all it's been a pretty eventful day.  To conclude:
23 Things on My To-Do in 2008:
1.  Fix my driver's license!
2.  Finish my first year of teaching!
3.  Select a new knitting project!
4.  Complete my study of 1 Peter!

Sorry to keep you all waiting for the next installment of the fascinating adventures of Ms. Tang, but yes, my car is running again, and I got to school safely yesterday (and hopefully will again get to school safely today).  Mysteriously, yesterday afternoon, I noticed that no more lights were lit in the dashboard, so I guess the engine had a little gunk in its throat or something?

Oh me oh my.

So yesterday I learned that God gives grace and second chances to His children.  My 6th grade math lesson was a mess, but I was able to learn from the crazy experience and had a "second chance" to make my 4th grade math lesson a smoother one.

Today's going to be a brand new chance at doing a better job with my 6th graders (class was semi-chaotic!) and having fun with my 4th graders (I still feel more comfortable teaching younger kids).    Continue to pray for my growth in developing into a more experienced teacher, and pray that I don't get too tired today!

So, I think I'm getting pretty old.

Tell-tale signs:

- I'm not as excited about move-in week.
- When I ride the bus, people don't ask me if I'm a freshman.
- I recall when I had class at the Frieze and no one knows what the Frieze is.
*edit* - I wake up really early and go to bed when the sun goes down, like I'm elderly or something.
*edit* - Sometimes I forget what month it is.

But then again, I'm pretty glad to be still living near campus, and I hope this year brings awesome opportunities and new friendships~!

Things I still need to do before Tuesday rolls around:

- Plan out first 2 weeks of school for 4th, 5th, & 6th grade math classes.
- Budget my living expenses for the month of March.  *edit* - September.  Geez, I'm forgetful too.
- Take some awesome new photos for building a portfolio website.
